Prepare to get freeky once again. Alternative hip-hop group Die Antwoord announced Friday that they’ll release their fourth album, Mount Ninji and Da Nice Time Kid, on September 16. The South African trio also shared a new song, “Banana Brain.” Mount Ninji and Da Nice Time Kid is Die Antwoord’s first album since 2014’s Donker Mag. According to a statement from their MCs, Ninja and Yolandi Visser, when they began recording Mount Ninji the tracks were initially “rough and tough and mischievous and wild and hard and dark … because in life you get the champions and the underdogs and in our minds we sometimes feel like one level below the underdogs in this f—ed up pop world, but we also know our time is coming, and soon we gonna take over this whole bitch.” See also Teletubbies sing Die Antwoord's 'I Fink U Freeky' (What?) But they say the album’s character soon transitioned — “the core of the album stayed all dark and ratty but a new layer oozed out around our dark core that was kinda mental and lunatic and random and juicy” — before achieving its final form recently: “Another layer exploded out of our dark wild juicy core like a giant supernatural mega aura and suddenly our album was so epic and sometimes vulnerable and sometimes sweet and romantic and so brave and full of mystery and win.” The album also features Jack Black — who they’ve collaborated with before.
