Lookman Adekunle Salami (known as L.A Salami) only picked up the guitar a few years ago after being given one for his 21st birthday. “No one got me an instrument before because no one could afford it” he says, and yet 2016 sees the release of his debut album on Sunday Best– a tour de force of rousing poetical, polemical “postmodern blues” and urban folk called 'Dancing With Bad Grammar’. "I call my music postmodern blues. I’ve always loved the blues, and I think of this album as my version of blues songs. I want to portray modern life using the past as a vehicle,” concludes L.A. “I love Sixties and Seventies music, that’ s where my heart is. But I don’t want it to sound of the past, I want it to speak of now." This DIY troubadour touches both heart and mind with his brilliantly wrought lyrics and boldly titled songs, stuffed full of defiance and exuberance. Definitely one for the future.
