One of the great french horn player of the 20th century, Peter Damm, has built up a comprehensive discography in more than 30 years. The focus is his instrument: the horn. Many recordings for the label Eterna are now combined in this edition. It introduces itself to the history of horn music with a great repertoire diversity, which is rarely to be experienced. From chamber music to the great Hornkonzert, from the music of the 17th century to the 20th century, the musical tension arises. Peter Damm was born in Meiningen in 1937. At the age of 22, Damm became the solo hornist of the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, who produced numerous record recordings at this time. In 1961, Damm played with the Hornquartett of the Gewandhausorchester for the first time as a soloist on a recording of recordings, when, under the direction of Franz Konwitschny, Schumann's concerto op. 86 was recorded for four horns. In 1969 Damm was appointed soloist of the Staatskapelle Dresden. With his cantilevered horn-playing, Damm was completely in the tradition of Dresden and coined the noble game of the Dresden winds almost forty years. During this time in Dresden, Damm worked as a horn player of the Saxon Staatskapelle on more than 100 studio recordings. Important international conductors such as Herbert von Karajan, Herbert Blomstedt, Bernard Haitink and Giuseppe Sinopoli were immediately fascinated by Damms Hornspiel. As a soloist, Peterdamm was also fiercely committed to new music and the rediscovery of forgotten works of all epochs, especially the Dresden court composers, in his record recordings
