Once Doggerland was a landmass linking Scandinavia, Denmark, the Netherlands and Germany to the British Isles. At that time, at least theoretically, one could travel all the countries on foot, the English Channel was not yet existent. For the band Doggerland is the name program. Ten years ago the Englishman Richard Burgess, living in Norway, and Anders ?din from Sweden joined together to combine traditional English folkmusic with Swedish folk. A recipe that worked, their debut came 2009 sensationally well. "No Sadness Of Farewell" was sponsored by the Swedish Arts Council and is hosted by renowned guest musicians: Kevin Henderson (Fiddle), Jenny Gustafsson (Fiddle), Mats Ed?n (Viola d'amore) and Fredrik Bengtsson (double bass, Mandola, Fiddle). But it is Burgess's expressive vocals and his melancholic accordion play, as well as ?din's succinct turntables and his sensitive guitars that characterize the album. The repertoire is with songs in English and Norwegian as well as melodies from both sides of the North Sea typical of Doggerland. Some of the compositions are from Burgess and ?din, the rest is traditional material and the two folk hits "Big Hewer" (Ewan MacColl) and "The Sun Never Shines On The Poor" (Richard Thompson).
