This album is pure poetry - the starting point of the recording was Christiane Karg's confrontation with the poetic works of Charles Baudelaire, Leconte de Lisle, Paul Verlaine, Tristan Klingsor and Victor Hugo. A linguistic poetry that finds a congenial correspondence in the Impressionist music of the turn of the century from the 19th to the 20th century. Christiane Karg has finally composed works by Duparc, Koechlin, Debussy or Ravel for their new album. This selection also contains an early composition by Britten, which was inspired by Debussy and Ravel. Christiane Karg expresses this poetic scent with her voice. Poetry and music, word and song merge into perfume! This selection of French poems dates from the second half of the 19th century and is characterized by the impressionism and symbolism of the time. They are mostly snapshots. However, the poets are not concerned with a simple, realistic reproduction of what has been experienced, but rather a wealth of symbols and linguistic images which give the moment described something special and unique beyond the reality: like the perfume of a noble perfume, Which flies away and leaves a touch of delicate elegance. And because the poetry so loves this word, and the settings of these poems underline the fleetingness and incomprehensibility, perfume appears to me as the title of this recording. Christiane Karg is one of the most sought-after lyric sopranos of our day, highly praised for her interpretations on the opera stage and as a song and concert singer. She is now appearing all over the world: at song recitals at Carnegie Hall in New York, at Wigmore Hall in London and at the Viennese music club, with her debut in 2016 at La Scala in Rosenkavalier, with regular guest performances at the Munich State Opera and the Chicago Lyric Opera House and performances of the Salzburg Festival and the Royal Opera House London. At the end of 2017, her debut at the famous New York MET was planned in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro and at the Vienna State Opera.
