It is a shame that Smokie will, probably, go down in the annals of music for the collaboration of their 70's hit Living Next Door To Alice with Roy Chubby Brown that was re-released in 1995 with added expletive! Okay, Smokie were a product of the Chinn and Chapman hit making songwriting team of the 1970's who wanted them to be the UK's version of The Eagles, but moving away from their glam rock past Chinn and Chapman did write some fine songs for Smokie which are all included on this album. Maybe it will surprise a lot of people to find that Smokie, as a live band, were an incredibly tight unit, as displayed on this live concert, with amazing harmonies (no auto-tune in those days) and it is great to hear the hits played with such energy. Smokie's self penned songs on this album are very good too especially, one of my favourites, The Girl Can't Help It; the unusual What Can I Do and Baby It's You. Maybe Smokie will be derided for ...Alice, but this live album is a band at the top of their form, before they split from Chinn and Chapman which sadly led to a downward spiral in their career as a band. It was a shame as Smokie did produce some excellent material without their former mentors (checkout later songs like I'm In Love With You; Your Love Is So Good For Me; San Francisco Bay and Can You Feel My Heartbeat to name a but a few)
