Very rare and highly in-demand 1986 12” from Indian Ocean, alias of late great disco legend and Sleeping Bag founder Arthur Russell. Although Russell’s original version is fantastic in itself, the stunning abstract Walter Gibbons mix is where it’s all at. With irrepressible madcap Gibbons at the helm, the track mutates into a strangely subversive dancefloor odyssey way ahead of its time which still sounds futuristic today. With a raw sparse experimental sound, this progressive sonic journey rolls along for over 10 minutes pulsating with a jazz-influenced interplay of funk-heavy bongos, stabbing synths, off-the-wall vocals and Russell’s trademark cello. One of the great moments to come out of the vibrant art / disco not disco crossover scene of 80s New York.
