She has been working on her album for a long time, now it's finally here: the Vienna based musician Teresa Rotschopf presents her debut album "Messiah". While the former lead singer of the Bunny Lake formation has been known to play neon-coloured electro-pop songs up to now, she is breaking new ground in her solo project. Here she captivates with intensive, melancholy soaked songs, which move into the depths and reverberate there for a long time. Messiah "has become an unusually personal album. It gives an insight into abysmal emotional worlds and tells the story of life, love and emotional disappointments in unvarnished, bittersweet ballads. The songs are carried by Rotschopf's distinctive voice, which alternates skillfully between theatricality and fragility, sometimes velvety, sometimes rough. In it, the impressively honest manner of a Patti Smith and the wicked spell of Nicos continue to work. Held in soft minor tones, the numbers meander through different styles, from trip hop to soul, soul, R' n' B and electro to romanticistic singer-songwriting, enveloped in the mystical aura of Gregorian sacred music. The fact that a total of 18 guest musicians can be heard on the album contributes to the breadth of the sonic spectrum. Drum samples alternate with real drums, synthesizers with piano sounds, saxophone with guitar or laptop electronics. This makes it all the more astonishing how organic and homogeneous the overall result produced by Patrick Pulsinger sounds. Messiah "presents artfully arranged, expressive down tempo songs - laconic songs from the pop underworld, dark soul music in the intensity of a confession.
