Electroacoustic fusion of Balkan brass, Maghrebian rhythms and dance beats. Fanafara Station is an international trio consisting of Marzouk Mejri (vocals, percussion, Tunisian woodwinds, loops), Charles Ferris (trumpet, trombone, loops) and Ghiaccioli e Branzini (electronics, programming). The trio draws its inspiration from the memories of bandleader, frontman and songwriter Marzouk Mejri of his father's brass band. Other central elements of the ensemble are the traditional percussion instruments Scascika, Tar, Bendir, Darbuka and Tabla, which come from North Africa and the Middle East, as well as the three Tunisian woodwind instruments Nay, Mizued and Zocra. The spectacle is rounded off by all kinds of electronically generated effects and sounds. The result is a myriad of dialogically related folk sounds that combine grooving Balkan brass, Maghrebian rhythms and contemporary dance beats into a swinging whole. All in all an unusual, but very engaging mixture. After a demo EP completed in 2016, "Terouba" is Fanfara Station's debut album.
