A consummate singer-songwriter who drew plaudits from a diverse array of stars such as Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Waylon Jennings, Emmylou Harris, John Prine, Gram Parsons, Robbie Robertson, Robert Plant, Mick Jagger and Elliott Smith to name just a few, George Jones' legacy has been one to rival that of any great country musician. With a career spanning seven decades, Jones released no fewer than 13 country chart-topping singles, with over 150 hits to his name in total. Although Jones' success remained largely consistent throughout his lifetime, it was during his first decade that he produced some of his most memorable work. As Jones released a number of well-received albums over the years, an often-overlooked factor of his success was penning songs that would become major hits for others. These included 'Seasons Of My Heart', which was recorded by Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Jerry Lee Lewis, 'Life To Go', which was a Top 5 hit for Stonewall Jackson, and 'Color Of The Blues', co-written with Lawton Williams and recorded by Loretta Lynn and Elvis Costello. George Jones maintained a highly eventful career for the rest of his life, releasing dozens of albums and winning many awards, including being inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame, the Texas Country Hall Of Fame, and twice into the Grammy Award Hall Of Fame for 'She Thinks I Still Care' and 'He Stopped Loving Her Today'. He passed away on the 26th April 2013, aged 81. This collection celebrates the earlier part of his career by bringing together ten original albums plus a host of separately-released singles.
