Working Class Woman", released on Ninja Tune in early October, is the fourth and most self-reflexive record by Montreal-based producer Marie Davidson. The sound of "Working Class Woman" is more direct than any of their previous releases. The influences are still the same, from Italo Disco to Electro to Proto-Industrial, but she leads through the album with the severity of a heavy punch in the stomach pit, making the album a record that is more intuitive than anything she has released so far. The best way to capture the whole thing is in the driving moment of the lead single "So Right", which was released at the end of August, including a John Talabot remix. Reduced lyrics are combined with a melodic bassline and bright synths, her words sketching a euphoric feeling that plays with the music itself. The record is marked by a career that has seen many musical offshoots: for example the ambient-influenced album with Xarah Dion as Les Momies De Palerme for the Montreal-based Constellation label (including the glorious Godspeed! You Black Emperor), her synth disco duo DKMD (with David Kristian) and Essaie Pas on top of that, which appears on LCD Soundsystems DFA-Label and with which she has brought Minimal-Synth and "Cyberpunk Coldwave" (The Guardian) into a new form in collaboration with her husband and musical companion Pierre Guerineau
