SPACE IS THE PLACE is in many ways a unique film: The original (and probably only) 35mm copy is fragile and unique. It has been carefully re-scanned in the in-house Rapid Eye Lab. For the first time, the original "Academy" aspect ratio of the film was transferred into a digital version. The result is a visual language that lacks the previous digitized versions of the film. In other words: SPACE IS THE PLACE triggers cinematic feelings again - it crackles and rushes with analog heart hunger. The clou: Through digitalization, the film is simultaneously protected from the slow physical resolution of its analogue original and can be shown in the cinema again. Rescue instead of restoration, and a sign against the impending loss of an irretrievable film heritage. Original english language / German subtitles.
