“Human Contact” is the band’s fantastic debut album with songs drawn from across the emotional spectrum, where wonderful lyrics and ambitious songwriting combine with both musical restraint and epic, horizon-sized choruses to create a wonderful debut record. It has been produced by Jolyon Thomas (Royal Blood, Slaves, U2) and recorded at Big Jelly Studios in Kent. The lyrics are the centrepiece of 'Human Contact'. Sam explains the lyrics: “Human Contact” is about a very modern kind of loneliness, one which doesn't allow us to forget. These days we are constantly reminded of our past: of intimate moments which have escaped us, whether these be via technology, or through a lack of personal interaction. “Inspired in part by personal relationships, personal loss and the onset of dementia in someone close to the band, this album is in both parts a breakup record and a love letter to memory. It celebrates, and is wary of, various kinds of human contact in everyday life, and how everything fades over time.” “All we have is our memories, and that is all we are made of, so this album is a necessary exploration of trying to overcome our past, only to realise that in doing so we are losing what it is to be human.” Citing everyone from hip hop queen Lizzo to modern folk artists such as Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus, and classic wordsmiths like Leonard Cohen as inspirations, traces of the same sonic magpie mentality that first led Sam around the various styles and semi-scenes of his local towns can be found running throughout the band. They’ve received strong support from Annie Mac and Huw Stephens on their BBC Radio 1 shows, on BBC 6 Music from Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson, and with press supporters including The Line Of Best Fit, DIY, Wonderland, Music Week, Dork, Clash and more. They have also performed at SXSW, The Great Escape and Eurosonic. The band played their biggest tour so far at the end of 2019, culminating in a sold-out show at The Scala in London.
