Brooklyn indie-rock stalwart Drew Citron formed Beverly in 2013, after having got her start as a touring member with Frankie Rose and The Pains of Being Pure of Heart. With Free Now, Citron, one of the most beautiful voices in Indie Rock, comes to the table with a whole lot of pain to sing about and the full musical knowledge to put herself, and her talents, front and center. I wrote this song on a writing retreat where I decided to be isolated for a few weeks following a very hectic tour schedule, a wild, erratic decision to break with my partner of 6 years, and a need to get back to my home, which is Northern California. I camped out on a beachside cliff. The waves washed me, I didn't really speak to anyone for quite a while, I was so heartbroken I just went through the motions of the grieving alone, eating, sleeping, breathing; and ultimately I came to the GRATITUDE of being alive - singing and writing despite the pain and fear of moving forward.
