The Tenement Year is the 6th album of the Cleveland, Ohio-based art-post-punk rockers led by David Thomas, the group's only constant. After a six-year break, Thomas reunited with his "old" band and the classical line-up of bassist Tony Maimone, drummer Scott Krauss and synthesist Allen Ravenstine. There are harbingers for a more pop sound, then a bit of surf and even the sweetishly touched ballad "We Have The Technology". The original 11 track album from 1988 was extended to 17 tracks, including 2 live tracks. According to reviews, "The Tenement Year" is not only one of the most accessible, but probably also the best Pere Ubu album.
