It is directed by Chris Renaud and Yarrow Cheney (Despicable Me 1&2) and written by Brian Lynch, Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio. The film stars American comedians Louis C.K. (terrier Max) and Kevin Hart (white rabbit Snowball) as voice actors. The film tells the story about Max's quiet life in his Manhattan apartment, which is disrupted when his owner Katie adopts a stray dog Duke. What follows is a hilarious rollercoaster of events in the sewers of Manhattan, a love interest and friendship. The Secret Life of Pets premiered at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival on June 16, 2016. Upon release, it received positive critical reviews and became the highest grossing non-Disney original animated film of all time. The film's score was composed by French film composer Alexandre Desplat, who has won an Academy Award for his score to the film The Grand Budapest Hotel. Desplat is also well known for his scores for the films Harry Potter the Deathly Hallows, Godzilla, Argo and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
