With courage for self-esteem: Sebastian Manz finds with his overall recording of the clarinet works by Carl Maria von Weber new interpretations apart from common paths. This is a bang! After years of work with the clarinet works Carl Maria von Webers, Sebastian Manz, winner of the ARD competition and solo clarinetist of the SWR Symphonieorchester, now has a provisional climax in his musical career: a complete recording of these works on a double album. Weber has left some of the most important works for clarinet - Manz plays them in his very own way. Weber had a close friendship with Joseph Baermanns, who was one of the great clarinet virtuosos of his time. In his compositions for clarinet, Weber therefore often left many vacancies. Dynamics, which Baermann itself could fill. This is how versions of the works of Baermann, which up to now are the standard of many clarinetists, have been produced. For Manz this was not an option! He has developed his own interpretations - resulting in an individual interpretation full of lightness and artistic design power. With Sebastian's music, Sebastian Manz also combines a personal awakening experience: as a teenager, he listened to a recording of the second clarinet concerto - the soloist was the jazz musician Benny Goodman, whose energetic play encouraged Manz to deal intensively with his instrument. Just as Goodman, who interpreted Weber's work with the freedom of the jazz musician, Sebastian Manz himself now dedicates himself to the compositions with all artistic possibilities. The fact that Sebastian Manz presents a recording that is unique at all levels is justified by the recording conditions. Manz is a solo clarinetist of the Radio Symphony Orchestra of the SWR (since September 2016 the SWR Symphonieorchester). In collaboration with his trusted colleagues, Manz was able to elaborate the technical finesse in Weber's works and their emotional depth in every detail. Also the chamber music partners of the recording are long-time musical companions. Pianist Martin Klett, with whom Sebastian Manz already won the German Music Competition in 2008, and the Swiss Casal Quartet and the contrabassist Lars Olaf Schaper. This reinforces Manz and the quartet in Weber's famous clarinet quintet: this too is a separate arrangement by Sebastian Manz. Sebastian Manz studied with Sabine Meyer and Reiner Wehle in L?beck and had his first formative concert experiences with Weber. E.g. With the first clarinet concerto and a little later with the concertino, At the EXPO 2000 with the Jugendsfonieorchester Hannover under Cornelius Meister. In 2008, when Manz won the first prize for the clarinet of the ARD music competition, which he had won for 40 years, as well as three other prizes and the audience prize, Weber played a decisive role.
