Way back in the mid-1990s, Cali artists Exile and Aloe Blacc formed a group called Emanon. Exile made the beats, and Aloe Blacc — for the most part — rapped, but they hadn’t worked on an album in over a decade. Exile became one of the hottest producers in the underground hip-hop world (making Below The Heavens with Blu in the process) and started his Dirty Science label in mid-2000s, and Aloe Blacc released Shine Through and Good Things, then turned into a worldwide star with “Wake Me Up” and “The Man.” But Aloe and Exile are back now as Emanon once again with Dystopia. The 10 songs have features from Blu and CashUs King (formerly known as Co$$). Listening to a couple songs while writing this post up, Aloe sounds energized to be rapping again, getting issues — from personal to societal — off his brain he hasn’t been able to over the last three years since his last release on Interscope
