Kim Janssen was born in the Netherlands but grew up in Asia where he was influenced by nature and culture. From Bangkok via Phnom Penh to Kathmandu, he was able to discover the world as a child. Cousins ??is a pop album between deep darkness and blinding colors. Shrouded in shining synths, a huge orchestra and Kim's voice, the album is bursting with energy, but at the same time it is also intimate and behavioral. His style of singing recalls Bill Callahan, who then surprises with a sky-high head-voice. Accompanied by stringed instruments and powerful drums, Kim's ballads tell of his memories of the nights in Loi Krathong. He sings of earthquake exercises, political unrest, countless days on terraces, beautiful birthday parties and Chinese restaurants. "Cousins" tells about Kim Janssens' life like an open book. He looks back into the past, looks forward, feels longing and repression, bored with devotion and obsession. After countless years in the studio, "Cousins" was produced in collaboration with Marla Hansen (Sufjan Stevens, The National) and Eir?kur Orri ?lafsson (Sigur R?s), and Chris Coady (Beachhouse, Future Islands) and Greg Calbi (Blood on the Tracks, Graceland.
