PROSSER,HAYDEN - Tether (Sealed) (CD)

Electronic thought, analogue played: Exciting debut album by the jazz bassist. With "Tether" the composer and contrabassist Hayden Prosser presents his debut album. Although it is an acoustic jazz work, it is rooted in electronic and serial music. Philipp Gropper (tenorsaxophone), Elias Stemeseder (piano) and Max Santner (drums) were the only ones to have his eleven original compositions. The starting point of his compositions were electronic phrasing and programming that Prosser had first transcribed for piano and subsequently translated into instructions for his analogue quartet. From this the four musicians created different sound environments, from which the individual pieces were ultimately formed. These are correspondingly based on a few ideas that the quartet breaks through in repetitive and intricate ways. Although the whole has a relatively theoretical superstructure, "Tether" has quite a groove, and not least by Gropper's saxophone playing also its funky moments.
