Forty years after its first release at Pole Records, Gonza? Records reissues a psychedelic french masterpiece : "Pole" by Philippe Besombes and Jean-Louis Rizet. That's a stunning piece of work made mainly by synths from various kinds (VCS, Farfisas, Mellotron, etc), backed up occasionally with drums and other sounds. Supported by artists like Julian Cope, Etienne Jaumet (Zombie Zombie) and various diggers all around the world, "Pole" takes the listener through a trip, like the gods of psychedelic music intended, from IRCAM's laboratories to german krautrock from Faust to Cluster with Eno. Reissued in a single LP edition (including MP3 voucher with track Synthi soit-il, absent from the vinyl), "Pole" is ideal for thorough shamanic journeying without New Age namby-pambying, and after previewing some of the first track (Haute Pression),listener could go on tripping on mushrooms, rediscovering that dark and fuzzy side of unknown 70' french avant garde music era. Sounding like : Faust, Cluster, Brian Eno, Patrick Vian, « This album changed my life, completely altered my perspective of what was possible on that mind-bending night ». (Julian Cope)
