The band DIVES was founded in February 2016 and within a very short time the three musicians were woven into the net of the Wiener Underground. Starting point of this fantastic formation was the Girls Rock Camp 2015, where the protagonists got to know each other. In May 2017, DIVES, together with the Viennese sound engineer, musician and producer Wolfgang M?stl (Mile Me Deaf, Sex Jams, Clara Luzia, Melt Downer...) locked themselves into the studio to record their first songs. The result are the six titles of their first release, the mini-album DIVES, named after the band itself. The process was fast, to the point and full of mutual trust. DIVES are multifaceted and varied. Tamara Leichtfried and Viktoria Kirner's catchy two-part vocals express a strength, often formulated as a demand to an opponent. There are sunny surf moments like on the opener,"shrimp", playful questions like in,"Roof", dreamy and hymnal ("Tomorrow") and distinctive garage punk ("Squeeze"). This mix of styles is anything but fragile. DIVES manage to make a striking statement, not to orientate themselves on slippery pop fantasies. Comparisons with international scene sizes can easily stand up without false modesty. References such as the contemporary La Sera, La Luz or L. A. Witch pestering each other. Unconscious influences of the early 1980s such as The Shop Assistants, Black Tambourine or Altered Images can be assumed when listening for the second time. But don't worry - it doesn't get too nostalgic here. Rather, DIVES surrounds an aura of carefree youthfulness. In their songs they sing about the joys but also the troubles of the wild young life. But completely without pathetic teenage fear. Too much they look forward, the beat - a rhythm. Out into the world. We will be curious to see where they continue to sail on their high-flying flight.
