Palmbomen II is the musical alter ego of Dutch producer Kai Hugo, now living in Los Angeles. As the latter, he released his self-titled debut on Tim Sweeney's label Beats In Space in 2015. In 2017, Palmbomen II dedicated itself to his four-part EP series "Memories Of Cindy", which will also be released as a double CD at the end of the series. Stylistically, Hugo follows the Belgian New Beat of the late 80s and early 90s as well as the melodic lo-fi house and acid from Chicago. He uses a whole arsenal of drum computers, FX units and analog synthesizers. While his early work was still inspired by figures from "Akte X", especially those who died a very cruel death very quickly, the tracks for "Memories Of Cindy" focus solely on the title-giving Cindy. Their death forms the thematic framework for four episodes, each summarised on one EP. The whole thing seems atmospheric-surreal and inevitably reminds us of "Twin Peaks". Hugo himself speaks of "Neo Noir", but New Age House would actually be quite fitting.
