With old married couples, that's one thing. If the relationship is not carefully cultivated, there is a risk of alienation. But there is another way - as the Martin Auer Quintett proves. The trumpeter's ensemble is something like the "old married couple of the German jazz scene" - in a positive sense. Although the musicians are all around 40 years young - and thus far from retirement age - they have been playing together for more than 20 years. A long time in which she experiences ups and downs, overcomes crises, defies trends and currents and has consistently made her own music. This has welded the five of them together enormously. The youthful freshness and dynamism they display when making music, combined with a relaxed routine and a well-dosed portion of coolness - these are the unmistakable characteristics of the ensemble, which now presents its new album "So Far" after "Our Kind Of...". One of the great strengths of the ensemble is that all members are not only excellent musicians, but also experienced songwriters. The collective idea - everyone contributes to the album as a soloist and composer - was again in the foreground at "So Far". Rock, pop, classical music, jazz - all of this can be found in our pieces, whereby we want to avoid drawers and prefer to talk about improvised music. Music that is primarily meant to be fun and to arouse emotions,"explains Auer, who has been living in Berlin for several years and teaches trumpet at the Leipzig Academy of Music.
