The current resurgence of jazz in all its forms has certainly not been ignored lately - from commercially highly successful artists like Gregory Porter to the "Jazz not Jazz" soundscapes of a Kamasi Washington, Moses Boyd, Nubya Garcia or Snarky Puppy. They all prove that this is a worldwide phenomenon. One artist who has been working in this field for years is Lance Ferguson. As the driving force behind The Bamboos, Cookin' On 3 Burners, Lanu and the Black Feeling series, these are some of the most versatile projects for which he has earned an enviable reputation. Lance explains:"The Arrow Of Time" draws its inspiration conceptually from the themes of space exploration, human evolution and the future of humanity. It's pretty big to underpin an album with modal jazz tunes - but the main message is hope, and I hope that comes across in the music. The sound of record labels such as Strata East, Tribe and Black Jazz has had a decisive influence on menagerie. For me, this sound in 2018 is timeless, exciting and as lively as current music trends.
