The 59-year-old guitarist, songwriter and producer from Los Angeles is one of the most busy session musicians in the USA, and has been involved in hundreds of record productions since the 1980s. Experts regard Landau as a living studio legend, and his childhood friend Steve Lukather (Toto) calls him "One of God's guitar players". As a virtuoso interpreter of his own material, he last appeared in 2012 with "Organic Instrumentals" - an album that still lives up to its title today. For his fans, many of whom find themselves in Europe, the long wait for supplies has now come to an end. For "Rock Bottom" Michael Landau has teamed up anew with his brother Teddy Landau on bass and singer David Frazee, as well as keyboarders Larry Goldings and Alan Hertz on drums. Musically it goes here still more clearly in a direction, as it was to be recognized partially already on the album "The Michael Landau Group Live" of 2006. A US critic had written at the time that Landau would present himself as Jimi Hendrix would very probably sound if he were still alive. This also applies to some of the "Rock Bottom" pieces, but more than that, the album sounds through the bank as if it had been coarsely conceived in the Morrison Hotel and then, on a hike with Sergeant Pepper through the Laurel Canyon, brought to the point. It breathes the spirit of the seventies and transposes it into the present in a gripping way. The spirit of a time when you let yourself fall into the music to lose yourself in it. "Relax and enjoy the ride," Michael Landau recommends,"just like we did." There will be an opportunity to do so, not least when he and his band "Rock Bottom" present live after their release in Europe.
