Two voices, double bass and electric guitar - that's all. Textor & Renz leave out everything that is unnecessary, and so their very own sound is created. This has nothing to do with classical blues or country music, but with the hip hop of Kinderzimmer Productions, which is part of Textor. With deliberate minimalism, all the more so. The two have heard a lot of Johnny Cash and Hank Williams, you can feel that, but also the melancholy and loneliness of Neil Young, Nick Drake or Townes van Zandt can be found in this special sound. The fine of Bill Evans, the velvet of Dean Martin shimmers through, the woody and creaky of Tom Waits or Willie Dixon, too. Likewise, the flaming red, the furious, the deeply dark, sometimes appears only as a hint or as a brief change of musical perspective. Textor & Renz have a sound that finds the magic in a single note or in a simple sentence and makes it shine. They seem to be strangers at home and at home in the stranger. That's strange, but somehow surprising and refreshing, and sometimes you feel like in a Kaurism?ki movie.
