Canadian singer M?lissa Laveaux revisits the musical heritage of Haiti, her country of origin, on Radio Siw?l, her new album to be released on February 2nd at No Format! (which spoiled us this year with Oumou Sangar?'s album). In particular, she is interested in the popular songs of the resistance, those created during the American occupation of the island between 1915 and 1934. With this first excerpt, M?lissa takes over the guitarist Frantz Cass?us, who, although born in Port-au-Prince, was also an expatriate to promote traditional Haitian music in the United States (he was also the teacher of guitarist Marc Ribot). Nan Fon Bwa "(meaning" at the bottom of the woods ") is a beautiful hymn to nature, shaded but warm, like in the hollow of the Haitian forests.
