The last chapter in the history of Gurrumul, the best-selling Aboriginal musician of all time and an Australian icon, will be written this April with the release of Djarimirri (Child of the Rainbow). More than four years in the making and only a few weeks before his death in 2017, "Djarimirri (Child of the Rainbow)" is Gurrumul's gift to the world, an astonishing musical achievement that combines traditional songs and harmonious songs from his Yolngu life with European orchestral arrangements. The result is a beautiful recording of an iconic artist at his creative peak and a legacy that cannot be surpassed. The album will be unveiled in April for the release of GURRUMUL, a moving documentary film that traces his life and achievements, written and directed by Paul Williams. The film received standing ovations during its international premiere at this year's Berlinale and inspired critics worldwide.
