Lisa Wulff is one of the hopes of the young, modern jazz generation. With her multi-layered, atmospheric compositions, the Hamburg bassist brings a breath of fresh air into the genre. Musical fears of contact are completely foreign to her. After their much acclaimed debut album "Encounters", Wulff and her quartet are now presenting their successor "Wondrous Strange". The ensemble impressively demonstrates that it has grown together into a solid unit over the past few months. The most obvious difference to their debut album: besides their double bass Wulff uses a soprano bass on pieces like "In my Head" or "Far Beyond your Eyes". A four-stringed, electric bass guitar tuned one octave higher, giving its player a much wider range of sounds - between guitar and bass. "Sometimes I use a so-called octave. An effect device that sounds like a keyboard by doubling the tones. This is a great source of inspiration for me, as it not only offers me broader possibilities of expression, but also challenges me playfully. With the soprano bass, I always go on a kind of discovery journey," Wulff explains. Like her band colleagues, she also plays in various ensembles. In 2017 Wulff toured with Nils Landgren and Wolfgang Haffner and recorded an album with jazz legend Rolf K?hn. In her quartet she has gathered unconventional musicians who know how to give Lisa Wulff's compositions the right colours.
