For his third album, London multi-instrumentalist Sean Khan, also one of the best European saxophonists, travelled to Rio de Janeiro to work with the Brazilian music icon Hermeto Pascoal. Named after a settlement of escaped and freeborn African slaves around 1600 ("Palmares"), the album contains a utopian jazz message to the world. Also involved in the recordings were azymuth drummer Ivan Conti, bassist Paulo Russo, guitarist Jim Mullen, Brazilian chanteuse Sabrina Malheiros and Heidi Vogel, lead singer of the Cinematic Orchestra.
