Django Reinhardt (1910 1953) was undoubtedly one of the most important musicians of the 20th century. The Belgian guitarist, composer and bandleader is not only considered the most famous Sinti artist, but also one of the founders of European jazz. Due to a burn injury he suffered at the age of 18, he learned to play the guitar in a very special way. In the 1930s he began performing in Parisian clubs, starting a world career with the Quintette du Hot Club de France. His fame at the time even protected him from persecution by the German occupying forces. After the war he went on tour in the USA, where he played together with Duke Ellington. The Best Of Django Reinhardt is released on the 60th anniversary of the musician's death and contains some of his most famous recordings on five CDs, among others with St?phane Grapelli, the Quintette du Hot Club de France and Charles Trenet.
