The Boys You Know in 2018: Americana folk instead of guitar noise & 90s nostalgia. If you've been following The Boys You Know for a long time, you'll know the band as a 90s rock combo that looks for a comparison with American indie heroes like Pavement or the Lemonheads. In 2017, the band underlined this impression by accompanying Dinosaur Jr. and the Pixies on tour dates. On their June album "Two Lines That Never Touch", The Boys You Know break with this style and present a record on which modern Americana folk meets world music. In the lyrics the band lets the listener look deep into their psyche for the first time, so several songs on the album deal with depression, unrequited love, suicide, and the death of someone close by. The songs were written in Santorini and Barcelona over two years. Stylistically, Neil Young, David Bowie, Bon Iver and Beirut are recognizable as influences. The Boys You Know make significantly less guitar noise on this album than on their previous album, leaving room for piano, trumpet, and a choir.
