Beer with liquorice - does it harmonize? You bet! In any case, Ulf Meyer (guitar) and Martin Wind (double bass) are convinced. This is because the Danish, salted liquorice variant is meant here. Musically it also fits together perfectly, as the two Flensburg-born musicians prove on their new album "Licorice & Beer" - their first duo album recorded in the studio in 25 years. "Beer with salt liquorice - that's when the sun comes up for me. This acts like a mutual flavour enhancer, a catalyst", Meyer explains the gustatory symbiosis between the stimulants. The same applies to his duo with Martin Wind. Since the bassist emigrated to New York in 1996, he has had an impressive career. Wind is one of the very few German jazz musicians to have established itself in the world capital of jazz. Ulf Meyer, twelve years older and loyal to the North, has made a name for himself as a composer, arranger and studio musician for film and television music. Despite their different biographies, there is still a close bond between the two - human and musical. After a quarter of a century of playing together, more than one basis has formed between them. Namely blind trust - a "homogenous unity on ten strings", as jazz critic Frank Becker formulates and adds: "Both also repeatedly convince on the stages with fascinating, compact exchanges of blows between equal soloists, which rarely degenerates into unnecessary haste.
