VARIOUS ARTISTS - Rotpot 001 (Sealed) (12")

Rotpot - an offshoot of Slimzee’s Slimzo Recordings which is run by the man himself and DJ Garna - drops four murky instrumentals. Both of the bossmen feature here, and their offerings are typically fiery. Slimzee goes toe-to-toe with As. If Kid on ‘Bumbaclit’, a nimble roller that combines influences from garage, breaks and of course grime. Garna’s ‘888’ has a nice stomp-clap thing going on that recalls DJ Spooky’s best work, and Gizmo’s ‘Untitled’ does something similar. Best of all is closer ‘Nightstalker’ by Policy, an eerie half-time track featuring a slow, soupy drum loop and swells of sub bass from the darkest corners of the monitors
