Liraz is a well-known Israeli musician and actress based in Tel Aviv. On her album "Naz" she combines modern sounds with her Persian roots. And there are biographical reasons for this. Liraz' family emigrated to Israel shortly before the outbreak of the Iranian Revolution in 1979, where they were born into a Persian, traditionally oriented community in which the memories of their homeland lived on painfully. This sense of loss aroused Liraz's interest in his own cultural roots. During Liraz' numerous working stays in Los Angeles, also called "Tehrangeles" by his Persian community of 700,000 people, she got to know the music of singers like the legendary Googoosh, who after 79 had been banned from performing in Iran. The story of Googoosh and other Iranian musicians who were able to lead an artistically free life before the revolution inspired them to produce "Naz", which brings the many lost voices of Iran back to life.
