In many cases, when a band puts a phrase like "reclaiming the classic" under the CD tray in their digipak, you might roll your eyes and go about your business, but that would be a mistake in this case. The Night Flight Orchestra is a lark, but it's the most excellent lark I've heard in recent years. This confederation of Swedish metal pros got together to record an album straight out of Hard Rock Heaven. Blending one part Thin Lizzy, one part Dio, a dash of AC/DC and a slight fetish for the days when every metal band seemed to have a keyboard player. Of course, the guitar pyrotechnics are plentiful. The vocals are all clean. Every once in a while, a disco beat appears. But I'd bet if you were a guitar rock fan in, say, 1976 or 1983, there is a whole lot here that will put a big smile on your face. I sincerely love this album, and they've got a new one coming out in June 2015, so you still have time to catch up.
