Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706) is one of the most significant Organists and composers of the Suddeutsche Orgelschule of the 17th century. As a child prodigy he developed quickly became a professional organist. He had at several German courts before he was appointed to the he finally settled in Nuremberg. He was there as Organist and teacher in demand. Pachelbel's music was already very popular during his lifetime. His style is by Froberger and Kerll as well as by the Italian composers Frescobaldi and Carissimi. Pachelbel preferred a clear, uncomplicated, from counterpoint style, the melodic and harmonic style, and the clarity over virtuosity and dense complexity. To his works for keyboard instruments include toccatas, Fugues, Fantasies, Chaconnese, Preludes and Choral Preludes as well as the Hexachordum Apollinis, a collection of six arias with variations.
