In the 80s the formation H?rte 10 was one of the most influential music groups in the interface between jazz, pop, avant-garde and free improvisation. The trio consisted of drummer and multi-instrumentalist Frank K?llges, percussionist and singer Valerie Kohlmetz and keyboarder and pianist Mike Herting. H?rte 10 uninhibitedly wandered through all conceivable genres and cultures, making use of the musical content and reshaping it. The music of H?rte 10 stood for an unprecedented opening into the new old world of music cultures and styles. Snippets of the one crossed with structures of the other, connected by free improvisation, the requirements of which were only the support of any idea. The musicians collaged at the highest level rhythm, electronics, text, gestures and facial expressions to the inimitable hardness 10 Gebr?u. H?rte 10 were and still are the successor and further development of bands like Can. Despite three studio albums, H?rte 10 has always been a typical live band that has given several hundred concerts worldwide. None of these concerts was identical in any way, partly because Frank K?llges didn't want to remember any songs, partly because the other two musicians could only stick to the planned plan in exceptional cases. "H?rte 10 shows a permanent creative restlessness, a strongly pronounced sense of form and an almost obsessive joy of playing." There are more or less well recorded live recordings of many of these concerts, which show the creativity and liveliness of the formation much better than the studio recordings were able to. Frank K?llges would have been 66 years old today if he had made it. In honour of him and H?rte 10 the group releases a compilation of this music under the title "H?rte 10 - Tapes".
