When promising talents make their CD debut, one is not only curious how they play, but also what they play. As in the case of the Latvian-Russian piano duo Linda Leine & Daria Marshinina, who have long attracted attention with their concerts. For their first studio recording, the musicians have now selected two classics of the duo repertoire, with Franz Schubert's "Divertissement sur des motifs originaux fran?ais" and Stravinsky's "Concerto". Another major work is by the Latvian composer P?teris Vasks, the former composition teacher of Linda Leine. Vasks? "Music For Two Pianos" is a work from his student years. But anyone who believes that this three-movement piece, written in 1974 and now played for the first time in the world, already gives a hint of the sound meditative traits for which Vasks is so famous (and often notorious), has fortunately been mistaken. Because here everything is so burlesque, madly motoric and always also slightly jazzy to bluesy, as if Mauricio Kagel and Conlon Nancarrow had been the godfathers at the same time. But in this "Music For Two Pianos" the two pianists don't really turn on their heads alone, they must have paved the way for the four-handed standard repertoire. As far as playing with the elemental forces and above all rhythms is concerned, Stravinski's "Concerto" from 1935 naturally fits perfectly with Vasks. Whereby Linda Leine & Daria Marshinina illuminate this charming and mysterious simplicity in between, which Strawinski probably eavesdropped on his old friend Erik Satie. The 20th century is then framed by Schubert's musical conversation tone, which should not be underestimated, by his Divertissement as well as the D major Rondo D 608. And here as there Linda Leine & Daria Marshinina play each other the balls brilliantly from apart to brash.
