Grooverider was already active in the 1980s as a DJ for the pirate channel Phaze One. There he put Hip-Hop, Soul and later House. In 1991 he started to play in clubs together with DJ Fabio. The sound of both changed from Dark Hardcore (dark breakbeat) to Jungle and then to Drum and Bass, which they played a decisive role in shaping. 1994 Grooverider founded his own label Prototype Records and Dillinja, Photek and Ed Rush. RAGE was the style-forming party series in London's late 80s, when Acid House evolved.
