Not a purely alpine phenomenon. In June 2016 Trikont and the Munich Department of Culture organized the festival LAUT Yodeln. From the most beautiful contributions the label has compiled a record of the same name with Erika Stucky, Christian Zehnder, Natur Pur, Yellow Bird, Baka Beyond, Duo Windbone, Drasch-Reiter, Black Patti and the horn players of the Munich Philharmonic. They show two things: that inarticulate singing from the throat is not only very impressive, it is above all not a purely alpine phenomenon. Whether in America, Africa, the South Seas or Southeast Europe, in Switzerland, Austria or Bavaria anyway, yodelling takes place in different ways everywhere: In many cultures yodelling has always been a means of communication over long distances, a lullaby or even an alarm call. At the moment, the development of urban yodelling can be observed. No wonder: in contrast to beautiful singing, yodelling allows vocal swings and the fear of being exposed as a false singer is completely superfluous with this technique. The powerful call of lutes and syllables and the abrupt change of pitch between chest and head voice make it possible even for inexperienced singers to put their energy into it. Since the yodel also manages without text, the communication functions completely without language - an ideal cultural technique for networking different cultures.
