With "Teenage Years Are Over", the Viennese indie surf trio DIVES presents a great debut album. Teenage Angst has paid of well, now DIVES want more and more. DIVES know what they can do, what makes them three and what songs they want to write. With their first longplayer they now rise into the ranks of the big indie bands of Europe. DIVES have already made a rapid start with their EP. In Dresden in front of 12.000 people, at the Popfest Vienna, on tour with Courntey Barnett or as support of Franz Ferdinand, Bilderbuch or the Vengaboys at the Wiener Ballhausplatz - in the three years since their foundation by the Pink Noise Girls* Rock Camp they not only played on big stages and important festivals (Reeperbahn, c/o Pop) but also hardly missed a small cool club (8mm Bar, Ostpol Dresden, or on their Balkan tour). DIVES have now captured this spirit together with producer Wolfgang M?stl (Voodoo J?rgens, Clara Luzia, Nino from Vienna) on "Teenage Years Are Over". So they have earned their reputation themselves, they determine the rules by which they want to work, and for that they don't need permission or well-intentioned advice. Appreciate your concern, you're gonna stink and burn. Great self-confidence meets a high feeling for melodies and dynamics. Their sound ranges from slits-like riffs ("Pumpkin") to stadium-comfortable ballads in luxuriant opulence ("Stay Right Here"). The first single "Chico" is an announcement to sexists, In-DMs-Slider and Mansplainer. With "Tomorrow" and "Waiting" there are two big earwigs on the album. "Nightdrive" can serve as a soundtrack for nocturnal trips. And with the cover "Looking for a Fight" of the punk rock band Bleached they bow to one of their most important influences. DIVES write surfing garage pop with self-determined lyrics. They are not afraid to tell someone their opinion. There's no crying about missed chances, no false vanities, and no coolness played just to be there. To the initial doubts - were they good enough, where do they want to go and what if the youthful lightness is lost - DIVES have found their answer: On stage, in their songs and last but not least with themselves as confidants and companions. This esprit is also made clear by her music videos produced with great sensitivity, as recently in "Chico" (director Kevin Pham). It shows the subtle coolness of the three musicians in the airstream of a speedboat sweeping across the Beautiful Blue Danube. "Teenage Years Are Over" can be called a big litter.
