Melodeath and poetry! MIR ZUR FEIER (engl. roughly “For My Celebration”) have dedicated themselves to the dark side of German poet Rainer Maria Rilke’s works: Loud, forceful, earthy, brute and direct. Massive guitar walls, epic solos, thundering blast beats, a tight groove – and with Mara Bach one of the scene’s most versatile vocalists on the microphone, whose virtuosic repertoire holds unbound screams and brutal growls just as well as classical singing, easily managing to transfer the poet’s expressive power to the present day: Forceful language meets a forceful voice! In 2018 the Bielefeld-based four-piece won the FemME-Battle, the biggest pan-European competition and festival for female fronted metal bands, giving impressive proof that their concept definitely find’s approval beyond the German borders. Following two self-released EPs and a single, there is no place for boredom throughout the ten tracks of the newcomer’s self-titled debut album (rel. 11/22/2019) either! Again and again it’s the distinctive interplay of contrasts that marks the red line in the concept of the band and the album: Sensitive verses and massive melodic death metal, unrestrained screams and powerful clear vocals, flowery language and a raw sound, mass and reduction… Had MIR ZUR FEIER been treating the two existentialist antagonisms life and death as two clearly marked-off spheres on their 2017-EP “Ein Streifen Wirklichkeit” (engl. “A Stripe Of Reality”), the boundaries of the two worlds grow hazy on “MIR ZUR FEIER”: What is life? And what is the relationship between life and death? Complex song structures and dramaturgy, singer Mara’s sometimes shouted, sometimes growled, sometimes melodic, sometimes intensely spoken interpretations, the dynamic production with its delicate interplay between heavy walls of sound, neatly worked out single tracks and effective vocal doublings making for just the right amount of pressure, when it’s needed: “MIR ZUR FEIER” is just as perfectly suitable for the mosh pit, as it is demanding, wonderfully escalating and a real treat for the ears and neck from beginning to the end!
