The Groove goes on. Funk hero Maceo Parker celebrates his 60th birthday -- with a new record that, as always, has a gritty title: Made By Maceo. It's the third album for the EFA spin-off ESC, a small label that stands for first-class productions, especially with top-class jazz/fusion artists like Joe Zawinul, Bill Evans or Tribal Tech. The legendary saxophonist's last two CDs have already made it into the top 40 of the European charts, and for Made By Maceo it may not look any different: juicy, earthy basses, swinging drums, crystal-clear interplay and Maceo's fervent solos over the perfectly arranged brass section; everything from shuffle blues to pop funk, from soul party to jazz feeling, a rap, and Maceo sings as usual here and there, original and a bit rough, just real.
