Shy Layers is a pseudonym that the musician and visual artist JD Walsh has been using since 2015 for his discreet, flowless, but nonetheless pointed pop songs. They are inspired by Wally Badarou and Arthur Russell on the one hand, and bow to Luther Vandross on the other. After two EPs, which JD Walsh combined into a self-titled debut album in autumn 2016, "Midnight Marker" is the first completely independent Shy Layers album. It was created following Walsh's move from New York City to Atlanta and is characterized by the new spatial experience on location. Although Atlanta is also a big city, it lacks the metropolitan character that makes the Big Apple so special with all its advantages and disadvantages. For JD Walsh the new environment obviously had a liberating effect, "Midnight Marker" has the optimistic attitude of a relaxed Coming-Of-Age album. He is supported by a number of guest singers whom JD Walsh didn't even know personally, but who spontaneously invited to the recordings because of their vocal skills.
