1989 - The so-called Neue Deutsche Welle has been through for a long time, punk had already celebrated its 10th anniversary two years earlier and then the wall fell to all abundance. That can be cheerful! Also in 1989: Frank Spilker moves from the small town (Bad Salzuflen) to the big town (Hamburg). Bitten by the (indie-)rock of those days he is looking for something new. On the search for a new sound, on the search for his own language, on the search for comrades-in-arms for a new soul vision in the sense of the great Kevin Rowland. And Frank Spilker, Thomas Wenzel, Christoph Leich and Frank Will can be found in the harbour, in the club and in the pub. That was at the end of 1990, "1990" as it already sounded: after a new beginning, it sounded modern, it sounded like science fiction. How fitting, then, the immodest name "Die Sterne". But which band that's a big fan wants to be modest? Only the dull and the unpopular, the Germans from the radio. And so Spilker, Wenzel, Leich and Will created something different, something not heard before. An amalgam from Punk & Parliament, an amalgam from DIY and discourse. Without fat guitars, but with organ. And, now it gets even more interesting: They had success with it. They appeared on TV (MTV, Viva), they filled halls, they had hits. With their own sound, with their own idea, with intelligent lyrics, with shirts from the second-hand shop ...with organ! Name another band that was/is like this? 2020 - The stars were so successful that their early albums are now sold out.
