The Finns of BLOODRED HOURGLASS offer modern Melodic Death / Thrash Metal. The quintet from Mikkeli doesn't shy away from touching heavy metal structures like in the overlong opener The Greatest Time of Change. In general, BLOODRED HOURGLASS have a weakness for melodies, which are mainly carried by the lead guitar (Bastard's Seed) and remind of some other representatives of Finnish Melodic Death Metals. The riffing at the base, on the other hand, is more modern and straighter and goes - together with the vocals - into a thrashy metalcore direction (Memento Mori). But Jarkko Koukonen doesn't offer corny screams, but growls in different pitches as well as in a fast perdition. On their second album the Finns also interweave more epic elements (Oceans on Fire) by celebrating the respective song section on keyboard surfaces.
