Atrav?s do Fado, in English "through the Fado", Pires has named his new album. The title is ambiguous, reflecting Pires' personal relationship with fado as well as its versatility. "Fado means destiny", Telmo Pires states, "he brought me to Lisbon ten years ago. I express myself artistically in this music, see the country, how I live and how I love through fado."
As the only male representative of the contemporary fado scene, Telmo Pires fills large concert halls in Germany, most recently including the Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic, St. Peter's Church in Leipzig, Hamburg's Laeizhalle and the Carl Mine in Essen. His individual approach inspires audiences and media alike. "Telmo Pires appears not only as a new voice, but also as a new 'image' of male fado," wrote the Portuguese magazine Nova Gente as early as 2016, while the world described Pires as "a magician of his genre" and the WAZ wrote: "There are voices that almost take shape, filling a room with physical presence.
