A very personal statement at this point: I like driving. Preferably when the weather is fine and the roads are clear, as it is. And good music is exactly the kind of music that goes with it. What Gschu present on their record ,A Picture You're Not In", for example, fits perfectly. This is music that is exactly as it should be. An album that is not too short and not too long with songs that are not too overarranged and not too casual. It fits perfectly. Appropriate, although you might not think so at the beginning. ,On Trees" is the name of the first song, which with its soft guitar sounds does not point at all to the beautiful rock songs that follow. Only with track 2 it becomes apparent that this was more an introduction than a first impression, because ,Some Might Say" is already quite a nice song and the following songs aren't without any problems either, can be pleasantly splattered as background music as well as inspire without much effort. Gschu, 2006 turned from a 1-Man- to a 3-Man-Project and still named after the frontman's nickname, leave nothing to chance, it seems. On "A Picture You're Not In" you can hardly find big arrangements or unusual instrumentalization, the record is with 40 minutes playing time neither too short nor so long that anything can be repeated, it neither corners nor runs completely round, so for example the beginning of "Talking To You" falls out of the frame. With ,Is She Burning" there is also a nice rock ballad on the album, and ,Songs I Didn't Write" is an equally nice ending, which ties in at the beginning as well as drawing attention to itself again. Both musically and vocally Gschu can't be blamed for anything. A record that stands out because of its unobtrusiveness. Sits, fits, wobbles and has air up - for the next album. A Picture You're Not In was released on 24.10.2008 on Siluh Records. -mainstage.com
